There is a framework called GDF which has 12 skills you need to meet to progress to your next level. I was told explicitly that once you meet the skills it is not enough, you need to be at the level for 3-6 months, which I find annoying. It'll always be easy for your manager to not promote you if they don't want to because of how many skills there are. I feel like I was performing at a level to be promoted but was not.

I have talked to my manager about what it takes, and Canva has different criteria for a level you want to move up to, with biannual "Impact Cycles", where our managers and specialty leads get to comment on our performance. This allows for negotiations towards a promotion. There is also evidence that needs to be supplied to show that one is worthy of being promoted to a new role.

Promotion up a level usually occurs after a year or two. However, I've heard it is quite difficult to move up to the next level. Promotion is based on your impact and development within the company's growth framework
