Diversity at Canva

8.8
8.8 rating for Diversity, based on 6 reviews
Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
Canva does care about LGBTQ+ causes and supports them - e.g. having a float at Mardi Gras this year, and I have not heard of any discrepancies in hiring based on someone's gender, sexuality or ethnicity. However, Canva could use some improvement in terms of increasing their maternity leave, providing better gender affirmation policies, and being more rapid in making these changes when these issues are raised.

High proportion of women relative to rest of tech industry. Somewhat ethnically diverse workforce with mostly White and East Asian representation, but little-to-no representation by First Nations people. Strong support for LGBT communities with involvement in Mardi Gras and Pride events. Generous maternity leave relative to other companies (still work to be done though)

Equal recruitment opportunities, support groups for minority groups. Maternity/paternity leave, and child-care programs for employee's kids during the school holidays.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
Not much as far as I'm aware and would wager that most employees comes from privileged backgrounds. This is reinforced by the employee referral programme which gives preference to friends of employees (that likely would come from similarly privileged backgrounds)
