Pragati Ganapathy

I wear many hats in the grad program. Sometimes one of an analyst, an account manager, a business owner, also being a customer to other companies.

What's your job about?

My employer is a supply chain company. Majority of the goods you get in time is because of the efficient work force and driving culture of the company who work towards the same goal in mind to keep the customers happy. My normal day would be to analyse the day’s outgoing stock. To understand the impacts in the daily profits if one unit isn’t shipped. Then to investigate what might have gone wrong in the process line and to come with a solution that avoids the same thing from happening. This is just one of the tasks; I wear many hats in the grad program. Sometimes one of an analyst, an account manager, a business owner, also being a customer to other companies. It’s always challenging and exciting as every day is a new day!

What's your background?

I grew up in Bangalore, India. I did my Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology. I worked for a year with an Aerospace Company and then decided I wanted to pursue my master’s in Business Administration at University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Studying and working in Sydney broadened my skills not just at a knowledge level but also on self-development through networking, communication and leadership which I considered as the key to seek the job you want which is how I got a chance to get into the graduate program at DHL. It’s been one year into the graduate program and it’s just the start I believe it’s just the start of an amazing learning curve for where I want to be next.  One of the many important life lessons I’ve learnt is that, you need to get out of your comfort zone to get what you want and  everyone around you always will have something to offer , you just have to ask the right people.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, this role allows you to implement what you’ve learnt in your degree into real life business problems. You can shape your job according to how you see it and it is always better to see it through fresh eyes. Although the basic skills set one should have is to know how to use excel and word and presentation skills and to be able to jump in when you spot a problem.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The coolest thing about my job is the people I’m around. Most of my job tasks revolve around people and talking. The stress buster for me would be playing a game of ping pong. I can go to the work floor and have a good chat with the guys or help them out with their work or I can go to the one of the VPs office and also have a chat.

What are the limitations of your job?

This job tasks is a lot to do around people so there will always be limitations. The limitations of my job would be that one should bear in mind you interact with people from various cultures, age groups and educational backgrounds. Every site has a unique nature of work, roles and responsibilities so it can be tedious to get the job done but one must know how to get the work done.
