About UBS

UBS is the world’s largest and only truly global wealth manager. The company operates through four business divisions: Global Wealth Management, Personal and Corporate Banking, Asset Management, and Investment Bank. The Bank's global reach and the breadth of its expertise have set it apart from competitors.

Your role

Your team

You’ll be working in the Investment Bank’s Global Banking (GB) business. You’ll work as part of the GB country, sector coverage, or product teams, providing coverage, advisory, capital markets, and financing solutions for corporate, financial institutions, and sponsor clients (subject to your desk allocation and market activity). You’ll learn how to use market data to develop research skills and contribute to the creation of strategic materials for your teams and clients in a dynamic environment.

Do you want to know more about the participants and dynamics of corporate finance and capital markets? You could have the opportunity to:

  • Understand how clients, including (inter alia) corporates, institutions, private equity, and governments, operate businesses and consider strategic objectives
  • Be involved in and contribute to the teams providing M&A advice and execution, including spinoffs, takeovers, exchange offers, takeover defense, and formation of joint ventures
  • Get to know the markets through IPOs, capital raising, and disposal/sale
  • Interact with the equities platform to get an insight into the investor community's views and trends
  • Learn all about debt capital markets including corporate and emerging market bonds
  • Gain familiarity with structured products tailored to the client's funding and stake management needs (including ESG)
  • Learn how the company analyzes complex situations and develops the best strategy to maximize the client's diverse objectives

Training & development

From the moment you join UBS, you'll be supported by the welcoming Junior Talent team. The team will be on hand throughout your internship for anything you might need, along with your line manager and "buddy", who will work more closely with you day-to-day within your local business area. Along with the skills and relationships you will gain, you’ll get an invaluable hands-on experience of what it would be like to work at UBS as a graduate, and insight into what makes UBS a great place to work.

Benefits

UBS offers competitive salaries, benefits, and a working environment where you’re valued as part of the team alongside this, you may get benefits such as:

  • Flexible working arrangement
  • Assigned a buddy and line manager
  • Potential for a full-time offer
  • Growth opportunities
  • Networking events

Career progression

UBS offers a robust career progression framework for interns. The organization takes career development seriously, providing opportunities for growth and skill enhancement. UBS assists interns in transforming their careers, offering personalized learning to bridge skill gaps and align interests with specific roles and if you impress UBS, the company might invite you to join its Graduate Talent Program once you’ve graduated.

Work-life balance

UBS embraces flexible ways of working when the role permits. The company offers different working arrangements like part-time, job-sharing, and hybrid working. Its purpose-led culture and global infrastructure help it connect, collaborate, and work together agilely to meet all its business needs.

Culture & vibe

UBS has a strong and inclusive culture grounded by its three keys to a successful business. UBS's workforce has always been its pillar, with a strong diversity, equity, and inclusion culture. With an inclusive work environment in the company, every employee is given an equal opportunity to make the firm a better workplace.

About you

To apply for this role you need to have the following eligibility criteria:

  • You need to be in the penultimate or final year of your degree, or recently graduated but no more than 6 months from the start date of the internship. In addition, you need to have or be on track for a 2:1 (UK grading system) or the equivalent in your first undergraduate degree.

It doesn’t matter what you’re studying. (Really, it doesn’t.) But UBS would like to see evidence that you can:

  • Analyze a problem, take a view, and come to a decision
  • Plan, organize, and communicate well
  • Make things happen
  • Stick with a task
  • Work in a team
  • Come up with ideas

Alongside evidence for working well as part of a team, as part of demonstrating data analysis and content creation skills UBS is looking for candidates proficient in MS Office (notably Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), with an ability to draw out and present key conclusions from their work. For Global Banking you need to be a high-performing candidate who can multi-task effectively, and showcase strong time management skills, with an ability to work to defined deadlines.
