Brief History of Zenith Bank

Zenith Bank came into existence towards the end of the 20th century. This was in 1990, to be precise, and the bank commenced banking operations in the country in the same year. Zenith Bank became one of the earliest banks in Nigeria to embrace and adopt Internet banking. In 1997, Zenith Bank attained a capital base of ₦500 million. In 1999, Zenith Bank started using digital technology to promote its financial services and encourage customers to engage in online banking. Zenith Bank started growing during the formative years of the 21st century. 

Thanks to its investments in information technology, Zenith Bank was able to compete favorably with some of the biggest banks in Nigeria at the time and also record sizeable revenues. In 2004, Zenith Bank had its Initial Public Offering. Later that year, Zenith Bank was listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. Zenith Bank has equity investments in subsidiaries such as Zenith general insurance, Zenith Custodian, and Zenith Securities. Currently, Zenith Bank has over 10,000 employees across its branch offices in Nigeria and other countries in Africa.
