The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is America’s civil space program and the global leader in space exploration. The agency has a diverse workforce of just under 18,000 civil servants and works with many more U.S. contractors, academia, and international and commercial partners to explore, discover, and expand knowledge for the benefit of humanity.
This internship involves surveying the field and seeking applications to the assurance of distributed computing systems found in disaster relief settings. A knowledge of general topology is required and some coursework in logic and algebraic topology would be desirable.
At NASA, they are constantly bettering their selves through career-long learning opportunities. They offer career counseling, tuition assistance, extensive onsite training, and other educational programs to ensure you continue to grow and expand your knowledge and skills. Depending on your own career path, you’ll have the opportunity to take on new roles across the agency—when filling many positions, NASA considers current employees first—or take on roles with more managerial responsibility.
The estimated salary for this role ranges from $56,000 to $92,000 per year. This includes health, life, dental and vision insurance, retirement plan, paid leave, holidays, and more.
As a Pathways Intern, they invest in you on purpose—assigning you with challenging, meaningful work aligned with your academic or career interests, providing you with life-long learning and growth opportunities, and cultivating a supportive community that offers you a home away from home. Throughout your Pathways Internship, you’re given the autonomy to define your own career trajectory at NASA. At the beginning of your internship, they will work with you to develop an “Individual Development Plan” that will help put your experience and path in your hands by defining assignments, training events, and learning opportunities that will help you achieve your career goals. As you get closer to graduation, we will evaluate your experience and consider you for full-time employment that would begin after you complete your degree.
They are committed to providing flexibility to focus on what matters most—both at work and at home. They offer flexible work hours, telecommuting options, 10 paid holidays, and a generous leave program to help you achieve the balance that works for you. Full-time employees earn 4 hours of sick leave for every two weeks pay period and 10 paid federal holidays per year. In addition, most NASA locations offer onsite or nearby childcare facilities.
NASA promotes the principles of diversity and inclusion to identify the best talent and realize mission success. They support a diverse, welcoming, inclusive, and equitable NASA community through Special Emphasis Programs, Employee Resource Groups, Special Observance Programs, and Advisory Councils.
