Your role

Key areas the team works in include:

  • Catchment science and management
  • Dams and reservoir engineering
  • Flood risk management
  • Integrated drainage modelling and network rehabilitation
  • Asset management
  • Climate change studies
  • Other key areas of work include natural flood management, river and waterway engineering, wastewater infrastructure and treatment, water resources management and water treatment and supply. 

To do this you would be: 

  • Working with expert Arup colleagues in specialisms such as River Engineering, Flood Alleviation, Sustainability and Environmental Planning 
  • Working with collaborators such as landscape architects, planners and environmental scientists 
  • Meeting with clients, local authorities, and other stakeholders – including site visits 
  • Carrying out assessment, analysis and design 
  • Using specialist modelling and hydrological software such as Flood Modeller, Tuflow, Flood Estimation Handbook, GIS 
  • Undertaking feasibility studies and preparing technical reports 
  • Helping to win and manage commissions from clients 
  • Managing your own time and deadlines to meet project commitments 

Training & development

On this year-long Industrial Placement, you'll work alongside skilled professionals, and from day one you will be working on real-life meaningful projects - adding value to clients while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity. You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions with the leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects, and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.

About you

To apply for this role you need to have the following eligibility criteria:

  • Arup is looking for individuals studying towards a Bachelor in Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)ideally with some degree of specialism towards catchment science predicted 2:1 or above.
