The L'Oreal Story

L'Oreal's rich history dates back to 1919 when Eugene Paul Louis Schueller, a French Chemist, manufactured a hair dye called Oreale. This dye, which was the first of many more products to come, found commercial success when Parisian hairdressers demanded it massively. L'Oreal started as a hair dye company and was founded in April as Société Française de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux. When translated into English, this name means Safe Hair Dye Company of France.

L'Oreal attributes its growth and success to intensive research and innovation. L'Oreal employed two more chemists just a year after its inception. In 1950, the company housed 100 workers. Thirty-four years later, its workforce had grown to over 4,000. It was only a matter of time before L'Oreal decided to diversify its production into other areas, such as cleansing and beauty products. This diversification cemented the company's status as an emerging industry leader, and over time, L'Oreal grew its global network and reach.

Today, L'Oreal is a parent firm to over 5oo brands, and its entire product catalogue contains over 1,000 products. The company caters to various target markets. L'Oreal came to the UK in 1932, barely 13 years after its inception, making it one of the first countries it expanded to in Europe.

One thing about L'Oreal makes it arguably the best employer for fresh graduates and interns - its test-and-learn approach. The dress code is casual/liberal, and stuff like piercings, tattoos, and artificial hair colour is allowed.
